Trade school enrollments on the rise ...

I recently read an article in USA Today regarding the age of students currently enrolling in trade schools.  It seems as if a lot of people, twice the age of a typical student, are going back to school to train in a career completely different from that which they’ve done for most of their lives.

It seems to follow the trends of our economy, if you ask me.  One would think that a lot of people want to get into a line of work that offers more job security and stability in the marketplace.  One of the opportunities cited in the article dealt with auto mechanics and the article quoted one individual as saying, “Students feel that the auto mechanic job will not be outsourced”.  I completely agree.  Americans want jobs that will offer them a solid future in an industry that will be able to weather the ebb and flow of our volatile economy.

Are there any other career paths that seem to be thriving or even flourishing in today’s economy?  I can think of two … health care and education … but there has to be more!  What are your thoughts?

I think that the number of older students are going to increase, particularly in relationship to the economic condition and the fact that there are huge numbers of baby boomers. I appreciate distance education; particularly Penn Foster. It is a viable route to educational success. Also I agree that education and health care are on the upswing. I think that mental health in particular is a field that will continue to grow.
