Your resume and cover letter could be worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize but if you don’t nail the interview it all means nothing. The interview is an opportunity for your potential employer to see how well you interact with others, get a read on your personality and see the level of professionalism you bring to the table. SO – to avoid blowing the interview and destroying your chance at a new career … check out these “interviewee personalities” that you definitely want to avoid!
The Trash Talker- So things didn’t end so well at your last job and the relationship between you and your former boss could use some work … no matter what, DO NOT bad-mouth your former employer! And try to refrain from using insults when discussing your reasons for leaving. Employers would much rather hire someone who will speak well of their company once they leave, so be respectful of your last position and employer - professionalism at its finest!
The Money Grubber- We all understand that money is and always will be a concern but don’t use your interview as an opportunity to ask about salaries and raises. Let the employer know that you are interested in the job for reasons other than the money; it will show that you intend to stick with the job rather than abandon the company for a higher paying job. There’s nothing wrong with having questions when it comes to finances, but save those for when you actually land the position.
