Gretchen Wilson earns G.E.D.

Grammy-award winner Gretchen Wilson recently passed her G.E.D. exam at 34-years-old. Wilson’s motivation for getting her degree can be appreciated by everyone; with a 7-year-old daughter of her own, the country star wanted to make it clear that an education is necessary to be successful in life. Even those who aren’t country fans would have to admit that Wilson is the type of role model that needs to be spotlighted. By passing her G.E.D., Wilson not only did herself a favor, but did the entire music industry a favor by giving it an ambitious, motivated figurehead who knows the importance of an education.

Whether we’re willing to admit it or not, admiration of celebrities isn’t something that stops as we get older. Maybe other celebrities can take Wilson as an example in further pursuing any sort of education; whether it’s going back for a high school diploma or taking a few college courses, movie stars, athletes, and musicians can all help put a popular spin on learning. What do you think? Would educating Hollywood help motivate others as much as I hope it can, or am I just being optimistic?
