For the Love of a Dog ...

Have you ever lost a dog?  If you are a dog lover, it’s truly one of the most painful losses one can feel.  I’ve had dogs most of my life.  Unfortunately, their life span isn’t as long as ours and I’ve had to come to terms with losing two of my best friends.  You don’t think you can ever get another.  And then, the sweetest, most loving puppy somehow winds up in your home.  Or two.  Yep, here we are again with not just one, but two of the funniest, silliest, most affectionate dogs to join our household.  I’ll guess I’ll always have a dog, no matter how hard it is to let go of them.

So I, like many, was touched by a story that appeared in my local newspaper about a dog named Molly.  Molly is a 7 month old American bulldog with a rare genetic disease that would cripple her if she didn’t have surgery.  Well, I have a “Molly” too, so this really hit home.

Molly’s owners bought her for breeding and since she couldn’t serve this purpose, they planned to have her euthanized.  Well, I guess this didn’t sit well with Brooke Henderson, a 24 year old veterinary technician working at the Cherry Ridge Veterinary Clinic.  Ms. Henderson couldn’t bear the thought of putting down a beautiful dog like Molly.  It’s hard enough losing them when they are sick and old, but 7 months!!  She not only set out to raise money for the surgery, she also found Molly a new home.  Yes, that’s an animal lover for you.  Since the article was published, the Molly Foundation, created by Ms. Henderson, raised the $4,000 for the pup’s surgery, medication, and recovery.  Molly is now recuperating from the surgery and is safe at home with her new owners Jim and Debbie Shelp.

Some people, like this veterinary technician, will go above and beyond the call of duty for their loyal animal friends.  Many people can’t understand that.  As a matter of fact, there were many people angered that the money was donated to the Molly Foundation, when it could have been given to a person in need.  For others, it became just as important to see Molly have that surgery.  Pets bring something special into our lives, something rare and genuine.

They give us unconditional love.  What more can you ask for in life?

Do you have an inspirational story about a pet or animal in your life?  If so, please share it with us!

I was touched by this story,,just wish my story had a happy ending like this 1,,,i lost my full blooded eskimo spitz shortly after having a litter of pups,,,we noticed her getting huge when we knew she had had the pups i then took her to the vet & wasn't there 20 minutes & she died in my arms,,,just imagine (this dog was like my daughter),,,your daughter dying in your arms i lost it & couldn't stop crying for days & we still don't know what happened the vet was nice enough to bury her for me so i wouldn't have to bring her home & upset my actual daughter,,she was 6 or 7 at the time our dog died & i didn't want her to see it even still it upset her we are now doing ok because we have 1 of her pups still living we had lost a few of them as well to death (PARVO) but this 1 is still with us & is now going on 2 yrs old although she is part ezkimo spitz & part chihuahua she is perfectly healthy & happy,,,,RIP IN PEACE WINNIE,,,we'll miss you
