Choosing the Right Career

Having spent over 40 years in the business world, I’ve seen more than my share of very successful people. The most successful all seem to share a common trait; they really enjoy what they do.

You see, choosing a career based solely on earning potential can be a big mistake. Of course, everyone wants a high paying job but the truth is high salaries only come with success. What is the real key to achieving success in a career? Well if you asked the rich and famous I’m sure their answers would be the same. “The key to success is choosing to do something that you really enjoy doing.”

There are some very good reasons why choosing to do something you like leads to success and high earnings. The fact is when you chose a career you really enjoy, you look forward to going to work each day.  When you enjoy your job, it shows in your work and your attitude. Your employers see it and when you are dealing with customers they see it, too. You also have the desire to become more proficient at your job by learning more about your field. That additional education not only increases your earnings, but also expands your career horizons. In fact, if you choose a career that initially requires formal education or training, the learning experience quickly becomes something you look forward to rather than drudgery. So, what is the real secret of achieving success and making a very good living? The answer is simple; do something you really enjoy doing and get paid for it at the same time.

Hi Haley,

They list a few on-line colleges and universities that have accepted the credits in the past. If you click on Penn Foster College. Then click on the accreditation. One of the links on that page will bring up the list.

That’s really good advise, and you’re on right on target. Ten years ago I chose to do something I enjoyed and I now have a very successful business. Because I enjoy my career I’ve always had a strong urge to learn more about business in general. However, with the success of my business, there just wasn’t enough free time in my schedule to get a formal education. Getting into my car at 6 PM and driving to my local college to spend an hour or two in a classroom, and then driving home to do homework, simply was not an option. Of course, in my particular circumstance, taking two or three days off each week to attend school full time was an even silly thought. I had been keeping my eye on line education for quite a while, but I was always a little skeptical. Then last year I started hearing good things about Penn Foster College from some of my associates, such as.. set you own study schedule. I finally started to look into it and when I found out their credits were accepted at the lo cal state university, I was sold. I am now in my first semester of their accounting degree program. So far, so good, and I really look forward to each new lesson. I‘m definitely learning a lot more than I did from the TV sitcoms I dropped so I could devote more time to my studies.

You are absolutely correct! Loving what you do is what gets you up and in the car every day. As a former grad from a 2-year technology program myselt, I so understand the benefits of getting into the marketplace quickly and go back for further training once I decided on a niche!

Keep up the good work.
