According to Dr. M. Kataria, founder of Laughter Yoga Clubs/World Laughter Day, laughter is a positive and powerful emotion that can change a person into someone more peaceful and positive. This change, in theory, will affect the people around them as well as their environment. The hope is that through laughter we can send positive energy out to the universe moving us all towards world peace.
Because of his strong belief in the peaceful power of laughter, Dr. M. Kataria arranged the very first celebration on January 11, 1998, in Mumbai, India. It has since been adopted by groups all over the world making the first Sunday in May the official World Laughter Day.
It’s amazing how simplistic the idea really is. Smile and the whole world smiles with you … same principle right? So, what makes you happy … what makes you smile? Getting a 95 on a test, an unexpected call from an old friend or maybe a change towards a better career? How do you celebrate “World Laughter Day” in your own life?
